Exercises to Improve Balance

When you hear the words "balance" and "ballet" together, you usually think of a dancer poised on one toe, with their other leg and arms extended, holding a still position for what seems like an impossibly long time.  Yes, ballet does involve that kind of balance, now and then, but actually every move in ballet requires balance, and learning to find your body's balance points will help you in your ballet classes, and also when moving around the world in everyday life.

Balance can feel really tricky as we age but especially when it comes to taking part in ballet-inspired exercise. That's why I really like this video, from Sarah at Breaking Ballet, showing you five exercises you can practice daily to help improve your balance and give you more confidence when it comes to completing your ballet workouts. Understanding which  muscles to use, where your weight should be and how to “find your center” is crucial for good balance and Sarah does a great job of showing you how to achieve better balance with some dedicated practice.  Give them a try!
