Philosophy

Ballet is a beautiful, personally-fulfilling art form that also happens to be an excellent way to exercise both your body and your brain.

Ballet-Based Fitness is a class for adults wanting to promote their own health and wellness through the joyful art of basic ballet.  We employ floor stretches and exercises, traditional ballet barre combinations, and simple center work to safely tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, promote coordination, and develop memory and concentration skills.  We avoid repetitive and strenuous movements that can damage joints and soft tissues.  We modify advanced ballet techniques to make them safe for every-day folks.

This is a great class for adult beginners and adult “returners.”  We foster a relaxed, fun, friendly, non-competitive environment.  We "keep it real" and work within our own comfort levels and abilities, finding satisfaction in accomplishments both big and small. We explain things as we go, so no experience is needed.  We acknowledge that people come in a multitude of shapes and abilities, and we welcome them all.

This class is perfect for anyone who:

  • always wanted to try ballet but felt intimidated by formal studio classes.

  • took ballet as a child, but hasn't since and wants to get back into it.

  • has taken ballet as an adult and needs a class focused on safety and injury prevention.
